In order to provide our clients with unrivalled quality of service and safety in car hire, Europcar has a set of policies which are rigorously adhered to.  Quality and safety of your driving experience is of utmost importance to us and our fleet is maintained to a very high standard set by qualified vehicle distributors such as Ford and Mazda International.  Vehicles are rented subject to Europcar's standard terms and conditions as reflected on the rental agreement and are subject to change without notice.

SPECIAL NOTES ON DRIVING IN ZIMBABWE

  • 10% Excess Cover – The 10% excess does not cover damage to tyres, windscreen chips, scratches, small dents and undercarriage damage.  This damage will be added to the renter’s account, to be paid upon termination.
  • Potholes – Please take special care on the roads as potholes can cause serious damage to tyres of the vehicle.  Cost of damage to the tyres will be charged to the renter (i.e. 10% excess).
  • Driving at Night – Avoid traveling outside of towns and cities at night.  There are vehicles with poor safety lights as well as stray livestock and wild animals along the roads.
  • Fuel in Zimbabwe – Fuel is now available from most fuel stations.  Purchase of fuel from unofficial suppliers is strictly prohibited.  Any breakdowns resulting from poor fuel contamination will be charged to the renters account.
  • Out-of-Order Traffic Lights – Slow down when approaching all traffic lights as some may be out of order.  Should this be the case always give way to traffic filtering from the right, and then proceed cautiously.
  • Roads – All vehicle groups except for 4x4’s (Group H) are strictly prohibited from leaving surfaced roads.
  • Vehicles – All Europcar Zimbabwe vehicles are manual transmission and right-hand drive.
  • Zimbabwe Roads – Driving in Zimbabwe is on the left-hand side as per the whole of Southern Africa.

RENTAL REQUIREMENTS

A credit card in the name of the renter needs to be present at counter to rent a car and be valid. Cash can only be accepted as part payment with a credit card to support. This is very important and essential to rent a car. Strictly we DO NOT ACCEPT DEBT CARDS AS FORM OF PAYMENT OR EXCESS.

At the time of rental, the client must produce:

  • Drivers license and passport/identity card
  • Required deposit which is quoted as the excess liability
  • Payment voucher/order (if applicable)
  • Local contact details (Hotel/tour operator) - if applicable
  • Home address and telephone number
  • We accept MasterCard, American Express and Visa as well as cash as a form of payment.

RENTAL PERIOD
Rates are quoted per day. A car hire is 24 hours. A grace period of two hours is granted before charging an extra day.
DRIVERS

  • Drivers must be a minimum age of 22 and must produce a license without endorsements.
  • The law requires that you are in possession of your driver’s license at all times while driving in your rented vehicle.
  • An International license is not essential. Special insurance cover can be arranged for drivers who do not comply with the age limits.
  • Additional drivers are charged at the current brochure rate. Only drivers authorised by Europcar may drive. Names and license details of all authorised drivers must appear on the rental agreement. If an unlisted driver is involved in an accident, or theft of the vehicle, the renter will be liable for full damages/costs.

CDW INSURANCE

  • Collision Damage Waiver Insurance.  Every vehicle is subject to a compulsory excess.  The renter will be held liable for the cost of any damage to the vehicle up to the amount specified as the compulsory excess in the rental agreement.
  • Loss Waiver Insurance.  An excess is applied in the case of vehicle loss.  This can only be waived by taking LW Insurance.  We do not offer Personal Accident Insurance. Personal property is not covered by insurance.

CLIENT LIABILITY

  • No insurance cover is, or can be provided to cover any accident damage or loss caused by reckless, malicious, criminal or negligent action of the Renter or his/her passengers, as defined on the conditions of hire detailed on the reverse side of the rental agreement.

  • Clearance procedures can be completed Monday to Friday only. The necessary documents cannot be obtained Saturdays, Sundays or Public Holidays.
